5-Book Rating

“…Ann Herrick continually proves that she is a writer who is in touch with young adults. The Perfect Guy is a great example of her wonderful writing skill. In this story, Herrick explores the feelings of a teenage girl who thinks she knows exactly what she wants and needs. Her experiences will include love, a heart break of the cruelest kind, and then a surprising joy.
Herrick writes with truth and honesty that is so appealing. Teenage girls will not want to put this story down.”

~~Children’s Book Reviews

“Ann deals very well with the roller coaster of emotions in teenage relationships and even provides some effective solutions to overcome some common hurdles. I would feel quite comfortable giving this book to my daughter to read and The Perfect Guy could lead to some very interesting discussions between the two of us. Definitely something to consider you mothers out there! ”

“…This is a good teen read, addressing major teen issues. Rebecca’s point of view is well maintained, with layers the reader can appreciate, and the writing is clear, fun, and shows a good sense of humor.
Good for a fun weekend read.”

~~CW, Wantz Upon a Time

“…I loved the stubborn somewhat naïve Rebecca, …friend and confidante Celeste, and the dynamics between the two characters throughout the story. I also liked the underlying message that sometimes perfect isn’t what you first imagined.”

Rating: 5 cups “Ultra Rare Extraordinary Read”

“…I really enjoyed this book. This story shares everything, from learning to accept living with new parents, to the joys and disasters of falling in love, to having your heart broken. It shows sometimes what we want is really not what is standing in front of us. A coming of age story that will be loved not only by the young adult but all generations.
…This book allowed you to feel the emotion that was springing in Rebecca all throughout the book. It is definitely a keeper, and Ms. Herrick is a most gifted writer. I look forward to reading more of her works.”

“Who ends up with whom? You must read The Perfect Guy to find out…

This romance novel is a tender and innocent look at teenage relationships. Early on in the story, I predicted the ending. However, in the spirit of fairness, I thought it wise to turn the book and the rest of this review over to my daughter, a member of the target audience:

I’m not as ancient or as worldly as my mother. I didn’t think The Perfect Guy was at all predictable; I had to keep turning the pages to find out what would happen next. Though first published in 1989, the story still fits contemporary times. I could envision the characters walking the halls in my high school. The friendships were real and the love story was genuine. The ending took me by surprise; even though the story didn’t end the way I thought it would, I still enjoyed how events came together. I’ve already recommended this book to my friends, but they’ll have to get their own copies. I’m keeping mine so I can read it again and again.”

“…I would classify THE PERFECT GUY as chick lit for teens. The book is well written and holds the reader’s interest from beginning to end. I didn’t see the conclusion coming until it hit me. Ann Herrick offers a great ending to Rebecca’s story! ”

~~Robert H. Goss, Roundtable Reviews

“…Can a teenage girl open her eyes to what is reality and what is fantasy before it is too late?

Ms. Herrick did a wonderful job in portraying the feelings that just about every teenage girl goes through. Rebecca is a fun, lovable character that has enough optimism to fuel the world.”

~~Rhae, Young Adult Romance Writers Review

“…[Rebecca’s] a more complex, three-dimensional character…Ms. Herrick seems to understand what teen girls like reading…”

~~Kendra Patterson, Romance Reader at Heart

“…it displays a certain kind of magic. ..the characters make this one a definite read.”
